Shirin Yazdian

1. To kick things off, what made you start training with me?

I was very intimidated about going to the gym. I was also lost in all the advice on where to start and what to do on the internet.

2. Since training with me, what do you feel you have achieved?

I have got so much out of training with you! I feel a lot more confident in my body and in the process of getting stronger and losing weight. The week before we started together I couldn’t do 3 sets of 12 squats with only my body weight and 2 months later my PB became 42.5kg for 12!

3. What concerns, if any, did you have about starting training with me and how do you feel about those now?

As an overweight person, I was quite anxious about your approach to workouts and goals in general. I wanted my first goal to be to feel more confident in my body and feel stronger before setting any goals for weight loss. In the past, few other personal trainers didn't really understand or respect that. But working with you has been great. I feel heard and encouraged to set realistic goals that I want and push myself while also learning when to stop.

4. How do you feel training has positively impacted your life outside of sessions? (More confident, more energy, less pain etc)

I have sooo much more energy and motivation for everything. Training with you has also helped me to be more grounded when I am having a stressful time

5. What has surprised you about working with me?

Workouts can be fun! I started enjoying workouts and pushing myself!

6. What has been the best thing about working with me?

There is so much that I like about working with you. I love your fun and detailed examples and explanations. I also feel comfortable to ask you basic questions. I really like the weekly check-ins. I find it helpful to reflect on different areas of my life (sleep, nutrition and water intake) and set new goals for the week.

Kai was the one who got my fitness journey started in the first place and gave me all the tools I needed to begin. I've been training with him now for around 18 months now, and have accomplished more in terms of health and fitness than I did in the previous 5 years. He immediately helped provide a simple structure for me to follow, with easy to learn fundamentals at the gym. He's been absolutely sound, and given me that extra drive and motivation when I was struggling with a rep, or not feeling my best, and that's what sets him apart. The fact that even now that I've moved away from Brighton but still follow his routine and exercises set almost religiously. Thanks to him, I was able to lose almost 20 kilos while still seeing a massive increase in strength and fitness. There's no one else I'd rather have had to guide me.

Luke Briers

1. To kick things off, what made you start training with me?

I wanted to a personal trainer to help me lose weight, gain muscle, and get fitter/heathier.

2. Since training with me, what do you feel you have achieved?

Since training with you I have gained more confidence in the gym, better knowledge of exercises, machines, and their uses, how to work certain muscles, how to get the results I want, and now understand what I'm actually doing.

3. What concerns, if any, did you have about starting training with me and how do you feel about those now?

I had no concerns, beyond how you'd get around my ability to avoid training and my sketchy work schedule.

4. How do you feel training has positively impacted your life outside of sessions? (More confident, more energy, less pain etc)

I can see the effects of the work we have done, you have inspired me to watch and work on other parts of my life outside of just training such as my nutrition and sleep etc as to not undo the work we've achieved.

5. What has surprised you about working with me?

Your ability to gauge where I am strength wise, what I am capable of, particularly considering the injuries I'm carrying, when to push and when to step back, and how you could keep us progressing, especially as most of my post-workout feedback was usually some exhausted, vague or surreal emotional reaction. Also your ability to destroy notebooks, and that you didn't think the ice in drinks would be from the local water while on holiday lol.

6. What has been the best thing about working with me?

How you managed me, especially with the lack of sleep, always at high stress levels, distractions in my head, and tendency to just go for the win, you were expertly able to keep me focused on the moment.

Hannah Old

1. To kick things off, what made you start training with me?

I wanted a personal trainer for a while, just to check my technique and to learn more about my body/goals but had never had the opportunity to.

2. Since training with me, what do you feel you have achieved?

I would say the biggest thing I have achieved is more gym knowledge, I have now used machines I never used before, I’ve adapted and improved my technique on lots of exercises, I’ve learnt about my macros, overall making me more confident in what I am doing in the gym and assuring me that I will reach my goals.

3. What concerns, if any, did you have about starting training with me and how do you feel about those now?

I was slightly concerned that it would just be about lifting as heavy as I could, when really it was the opposite! You explained how lifting lighter with some moves would benefit me and also completely listened to me and when I said things felt like an appropriate weight.

4. How do you feel training has positively impacted your life outside of sessions? (More confident, more energy, less pain etc)

I feel confident! My confidence had already massively grown from going to the gym prior, but having my sessions with you only elevated that, I feel confident and proud of what I have been achieving. I also feel more motivated in general, to get university work done, walk to places I would normally bus to etc, I just feel like I have more energy and drive to do these things.

5. What has surprised you about working with me?

I was surprised and how much I looked forward to our sessions! I couldn’t wait to learn more things and throw more questions at you!

6. What has been the best thing about working with me?

I never felt dumb asking you questions as you always made me feel comfortable, I felt like you thoroughly explained everything to me and also, when I asked, went into lots of detail about certain, more scientific, things about the body which I found fascinating. Above most you were incredibly motivational and engaged throughout the whole time we worked together which I know massively benefited me throughout this process!

1. To kick things off, what made you start training with me?

I needed to prep for top surgery and didn’t know where to start, I was not confident at all about what to use/how to use it.

2. Since training with me, what do you feel you have achieved?

I now know how to do many exercises, I’m confident in the gym, my muscle mass has increased, and my strength has increased!

3. What concerns, if any, did you have about starting training with me and how do you feel about those now?

That I wouldn’t gain much chest muscle and wouldn’t feel super confident in the gym after our sessions finished. I feel the opposite now!

4. How do you feel training has positively impacted your life outside of sessions? (More confident, more energy, less pain etc)

I have way more energy, more confidence, less pain, more muscle, more resilience, and have built more positive habits.

How you checked in at the end of every week and asked all the right questions to make me conscious of sleeping the right amount, eating the right things and increasing protein. Not to mention how much I’d enjoy weight lifting!

1. To kick things off, what made you start training with me?

I had been getting back into the gym for some months and hadn’t had much success with sticking to it or progressing. I saw Kai’s poster and it seemed he was someone who could help me, as a bigger guy, achieve my goals.

2. Since training with me, what do you feel you have achieved?

Where do I begin? I’m so much more confident and involved in the gym now, all thanks to how Kai has taught and helped me. He’s created such a relaxed and friendly environment for me and all his clients. My strength has also improved significantly, I wanted to squat my body weight, and now I’ve even gone beyond that! I can see the muscle growth too.

3. What concerns, if any, did you have about starting training with me and how do you feel about those now?

Perhaps for myself committing to it finally, making that change but also whether Kai would be someone who wants only the best. Instead he is 100% on your side and wants to see you do your best, that’s really helped push me and make me accountable with my progress.

4. How do you feel training has positively impacted your life outside of sessions? (More confident, more energy, less pain etc)

I am far more confident and far more happy with where I am in terms of how I look and my strength. It’s always an ongoing progress but Kai has genuinely helped me to really begin a fresh chapter and to start hitting goals I never thought I’d reach.

5. What has surprised you about working with me?

Perhaps that he is so genuine and down to earth, I did have a bit of an image of PT’s beforehand but he’s always there for a chat, whether over text or in the gym and makes you feel at ease and confident in yourself. He really is someone you can put you trust into and he returns that ten fold.

6. What has been the best thing about working with me?

We said at the beginning ‘Jacked, Stacked and Juicy’ was the goal and now I’m obsessed with leg day, which is something I’d never thought I’d say,  my squats and muscle gains all over are amazing and I’m getting to that Jacked, Stacked and Juicy goal.

1. To kick things off, what made you start training with me?

I had seen you around the gym training people and wanted to challenge myself after training on my own for a long time. I wanted to do more weightlifting and improve my strength and technique.

2. Since training with me, what do you feel you have achieved? In the short time I've trained with you (not even 3 months) I have achieved so much more than I thought was possible. I feel much stronger and healthier and my confidence in the gym has grown a lot.

3. What concerns, if any, did you have about starting training with me and how do you feel about those now?

I don't think I had any concerns.

4. How do you feel training has positively impacted your life outside of sessions? (More confident, more energy, less pain etc)

Getting stronger and healthier definitely impacts every part of my life in a positive way. One of the main thing I feel is how it's massively improving my mental health.

5. What has surprised you about working with me?How much fun I'm having in the gym! Not that I expected it to be boring but I always look forward to our sessions and always learn something new.

6. What has been the best thing about working with me?

Everything has been great! You always challenge me to go further and lift heavier which brings out my competitive side and that has done wonders for me both physically and mentally. I also love the community (Kaimunity) you've built with your clients so I didn't just get a PT but a group of great people cheering each other on and that's wonderful!

1. To kick things off, what made you start training with me?

I really wanted to get a pullup :). It's really hard as a girl. I had tried training on my own but I felt super stuck and I felt like nothing was helping. I would just come into the gym once a week from time to time (not even every week) and just jump around a ton of machines. In retrospect, a lot of the things that I was doing were the "right" exercises, but there was no rest between sets, no structure, way too many exercises in one session and no consistency. I also wanted to get stronger in general and felt like I didn't know what I was doing. There is so much information out there online and I found it hard to sift through all of it and understand what I actually need to do to achieve my goals.

2. Since training with me, what do you feel you have achieved?

Wow! The lot. First of all; we're at four pullups now (went from 0 to 4 in one year). Second; I'm just stronger. I've doubled a lot of my lifts since starting with you. I feel more confident in the gym (no longer scared of the free weights section) and I have a base of information/experience about strength training with which to continue on in life. I climb better. My grip is stronger and that helps for a lot of day-to-day things. It's helped my running a bit too. I've gained some muscle and am no longer as obsessed about the idea of being as skinny/tiny as possible.

3. What concerns, if any, did you have about starting training with me and how do you feel about those now?

Hmm, I think that I was worried about getting injured. I'm not as worried about that now. I feel like I've survived a year just fine and I have a decent idea of what I'm doing. I was also worried that it would be awkward to train with you but you are very good with people so it was not a problem at all. We had a good laugh.

4. How do you feel training has positively impacted your life outside of sessions? (More confident, more energy, less pain etc)

I've gotten more involved with my sporty hobbies/started some new ones. A few people have commented on my new strength. My boyfriend loves it when I have a pump in my muscles and comments on the definition in my back. I help my mother a lot around the house now with moving and lifting things. She knows that I can handle it and I am happy that I can help her so much more efficiently than I could before. It's just generally awesome.

5. What has surprised you about working with me?

Mostly that this stuff actually works. If you are patient and follow a good plan you'll get what you wanted. And the fact that you were quite open and fast about changing the routine whenever something came (like if I wanted to train more frequently or if I wanted to do more calisthenics)

6. What has been the best thing about working with me?

Just how approachable you are and that you have the knowledge needed to help people reach their goals, but you're also flexible enough in your approach that you adjust things along the way based on what the person prefers or how the situation changes.

Progress Highlights:

  • Went from 0 to 4 pull-ups within a year.

  • Doubled strength across major lifts and built visible muscle.

  • Overcame gym fear and built confidence in the weights area.

1. To kick things off, what made you start training with me?

Honestly, since the first day I met Kai, he was super nice and welcoming. We had a good laugh, and I think having that positive vibe is so important when training 😃

2. Since training with me, what do you feel you have achieved?

The biggest thing I’ve achieved is just being consistent and actually getting myself to the gym, not making excuses or being lazy. That’s always been the hardest part for me. And in just a month, I’ve definitely gotten stronger and feel way more confident. It makes me want to keep going and see how much more I can improve! 🏋🏻‍♀️

5. What has surprised you about working with me?

I think what’s surprised me the most is how supportive and understanding he has been since day one. Like I said, the positive vibe makes such a difference, it feels more like training with a friend than with a stranger, which makes everything easier and more fun 🥳

6. What has been the best thing about working with me?

The best thing has been how he pushes me in a way that’s encouraging, not overwhelming. He knows when to challenge me and when to adjust things, which has boosted my confidence and excitement to keep improving. It’s also been really motivating when he celebrates my wins, it makes everything more rewarding and gives me that extra push to keep going 💪🏼
